In the heart of Saint-Germain-en-Laye, we had the pleasure of overseeing the renovation of the Tourist Office’s new premises.
This was a particularly technical project involving moisture control, scraping the walls, ventilating the spaces, treating the stone, and restoring the hardwood floors.
This was a massive undertaking completed within a tight timeframe, with the necessary permits from city hall to ensure the space is accessible to people with limited mobility (PML).
The goal of this project was to completely reimagine the new premises of the Saint-Germain-en-Laye Tourist Office to create a space that is functional, welcoming, and sustainable.
The main challenge was to breathe new life into an historic site while respecting its technical and architectural constraints. The goal was twofold: to ensure optimal comfort for visitors—in a harmonious and accessible setting—and to provide the staff with a work environment tailored to their daily needs.
Accessibility for people with reduced mobility was central to the project, with a commitment to integrating this requirement from the very beginning of the design process. Finally, special care was taken to make the most of the existing furniture, balancing cost-effectiveness, environmental responsibility, and aesthetic coherence.
We provided support throughout all phases of the project, from analyzing constraints to final delivery.
We began by conducting a comprehensive assessment of the building’s condition to identify areas affected by moisture and determine the necessary treatments: scraping, remediation, ventilation, and stone treatment.
Once the technical foundations were secured, we undertook meticulous renovation work on the hardwood floors and wall finishes to restore the space’s authenticity while adding a contemporary touch.
At the same time, we reimagined the layout and design of the reception area, incorporating accessibility requirements and making the most of the existing furniture. The work on the reception desk—modernized using wood strips—illustrates this approach: a perfect balance between reuse, creativity, and functionality.
We chose to salvage and reuse the existing furniture in order to keep costs down and preserve the space’s identity.
For example, the reception desk for people with disabilities, which was already in place, was redesigned using a design concept centered on wood slats. This approach modernized the space while creating a warmer atmosphere consistent with the Tourist Office’s mission to welcome visitors.
The Tourist Office’s new premises now offer a space that is modern, welcoming, and true to the venue’s identity.
The renovation has brought out the charm of the existing structure while improving the comfort and functionality of the spaces. Technical improvements addressing humidity and ventilation have permanently improved the indoor environment, while the meticulous finishes and use of natural materials bring brightness and warmth.
